Oobleck Fun!
The sixth Grade invited third grade to their classroom on Earth day. The sixth grade students, along with Mrs. Lehmeier, read a story to us from the book Oobleck by Dr. Seuss; one of the first books ever written by him. The king of the village wishes for something other than normal weather. His wish is granted and the town very suddenly becomes covered in Oobleck-a gooey and slimy substance that is taking over their town. In the end, the King wishes for his town to be normal once again and apologizes for his greediness and vows to be happy
with the things he has.
students had a great time and the third grade left
with a souvenir of their very own Oobleck. Thanks Sixth Grade!
The 3rd grade students took part in all aspects of the mass while the upper grades were on a field trip. Each student present on April 9th performed an important role in the celebration of the mass. Tommy, Sarah W and Luke were altar servers, while Julia, Sarah R and Annie were cantors. Nora read the 1st reading and Alaina, Peyton, Morgan and Joey read the petitions. Melina, Meghan and Aletta brought up the gifts. The altar was adorned with a lovely fountain and beautiful Easter flowers which added to the enjoyment of the mass!
Third grade shared the love with fun toss games and showed their creativity with a heart bottle sand art craft. The healthy and delicious treats of heart shaped finger sandwiches, fresh fruit with pink cool whip, and home made Chex mix were a big hit. They passed out Valentine cards and treats and Meghan M. even made fudge for the whole class and parent room parents. Sweet!
Ready-K, Third Grade, and Fifth Grade spent time during Catholic Schools Week reading together.
KDKA's Dennis Bowman visited St. Ursula School for Catholic Schools Week.
First, Second and Third grades visited the National Aviary on Nov. 23. Each class had an instructional class. Third grade has been studying owls so they provided much of their own knowledge to the instructor who was very impressed with the students. They met Barkly, a screech owl and a much larger 3 pound eagle owl, and dissected owl pellets. A graph helped them determine the animals the owls had preyed upon. They saw a presentation on the wetlands birds and some students were able to feed the birds mealworms and grapes right out of their hands! Some students fed nectar to the colorful lorikeets. The students saw the penguin encounter, crawled through the tunnels for a close look and were able to observe their feeding time. Many amazing penguin facts were shared by the instructor. We ate lunch, toured the rest of the rooms and by the end were scratching our heads wondering what a two-toed sloth was doing in the National Aviary...
