Ready-K Update

Welcome back! We hope all of our families had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! The children are so excited to be back and are working so hard to get ready for Kindergarten. They have grown so much since we first met in September and we are so proud of all they have accomplished so far!

The children are starting their new unit called “Construction Zone!” The children will engage in activities about measuring, building, and working together. The children are continuing to work on their numbers, letters, sounds, writing, matching, and rhyming. It is a very busy, wonderful time of year!

Here are just of couple of reminders for our Ready-K parents. There will be no school on Monday, January 16th for Martin Luther King Day. Our Ready-K conferences will be held on Thursday, January 26th. There is a signup sheet available in the Ready-K classroom. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns. We are so excited about the rest of the school year and all of the exciting activities we have planned for the children!

Ready-K Class

Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Patricca

The children of Ready-K are off to a great start this year!  The have been so busy and really enjoying their first month of school!  They have been working on their letters, numbers, shapes, colors, and writing their names.  They have all made new friends and love coming to school!

October is a really fun month for the children.  We will be working on a new letter each week, learning about our senses, singing fabulous Halloween songs, sorting, matching, and counting!  The children will also be enjoying fun Halloween stories and artwork.

We are really excited about our first field trip to Reilly’s Farm on Friday, October 21st.  Please remember to send in your permission slips and payment to school with your child.  We will enjoy a Halloween hayride, story time, pick pumpkins, visit with the animals, and a picnic lunch on the farm.  The children are also so thrilled about their Halloween costumes and they cannot wait to show them off at the parade!

Thank you to all the parents for your help and support during the very busy first month of school. Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions or concerns about your child.  We are grateful for the opportunity to teach your children and are so happy to be a part of their first school experience!

  A "Ready K Day"

The Ready K classrooms are busy as early as 8:00 a.m.
The school day is 9-3, snack, lunch and special classes are included. Circle time begins with topics about months, days of the week, calendar, and singing. Working on numbers and letters happens next. Computers in the classroom supplement teaching with games. Students gather around the computer and cheer on the player as he goes through the alphabet zoo. One student exclaimed, "I love the Snowman Game!" They always want to try something new. The students go to the school library once a week, have a formal computer class in the lab classroom, take gym once a week, as well as learn art and music from our music and art teachers. Their artwork is on display in the halls.
Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Patricca work closely together on lesson plans and teaching and happy students learn in leaps and bounds with each passing week.
Before and after school care is available making this educational choice an excellent one for working parents--and eager students!

Our next Open House on Thursday, March 24 at 9:00 a.m. will feature the Kindergarten Workshop and the Ready K morning activities. We look forward to seeig families with 4 and 5 year old children!

Happy February from the Ready-K Classes!

From the February Newsletter

We are doing great as we are entering our second half of the school year! It is a very exciting time, as we really continue to learn, share, and grow! The children are working so hard in school, and are learning so many things preparing them for kindergarten. The children will be starting their new unit called in "In the City, In the Country". They are also continuing to work on their letters, uppercase, lowercase, and initial sounds. The children are also working on their numbers, recognizing the numbers 1-20 and counting by 10s. They are being introduced to addition and subtraction, counting and sorting, and the concept of money. They are learning to write out words, sound out the words in a sentence, and so many other things that will assist in getting them ready for next year! Some of the children have started helping to choose books from the library to read to the class. The weather has been a big topic since it has been since it has been soooo cold! The children are also working on understanding food groups, recognizing the days and months of the year, especially since we are celebrating Valentine's Day in a big way! All of this and Ready-K still packs more into each day! They enjoy having computer instruction, art class activities, burning energy in gym class, singing songs in music class, and find great books to read in the library! We look forward to Spring, the warm weather, and all that our fantastic teachers Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Patricca do for Ready-K!

Hello from Ready-K!

From the October 2010 Newsletter

We are very excited to be in class with Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Patricca! Every day we receive caring instruction on how to follow the rules, raise our hands, take turns, be polite, share, and say “please” and “thank you”. We are excited to be working on our developing our knowledge of letters and numbers, writing our names, sequencing a story (i.e. what happened first, second, third, and last), counting from 1-100 by ones and tens, identifying basic shapes and colors, learning about coins and their value, watching and discussing the weather, understanding food groups, recognizing the days and months of the year (especially the holidays and celebrations!), and distinguishing our basic body parts and organs. Our last topic of review in class was about the communities in which we live, and our next topic is all about our senses. All of that and we also attend art class, gym class, music class, and frequent the library! We look forward to a great year here at St. Ursula, with all the learning opportunities we have ahead. In particular, we especially look forward to a special party for our first 100 days of class, the Halloween parade, and the monster ball! Thanks in advance to Sister, our teachers, friends, and families for a great school year!

 their Halloween parties. Parents

provided fun games and lots of great

Highlights from 2009-10

  Reilly's Summer Seat Farm

The Ready K & Kindergarten field trip to Reilly's

Summer Seat Farm was great fun. The

children rode hay wagons and enjoyed an

 educational talk about how strawberries

grow given by Sherrie Reilly and her

 puppet friend Blossom. Finally, the

children went to the barn to pet the

baby animals. You can tell from the smiles

that the children were delighted. I thought

you might enjoy seeing how many

wonderful chaperones we had join us.
