During Advent kindergarten was blessed with a visit from Miss McKaveney and the second grade. The second grade showed the kindergarten how to mix applesauce and cinnamon to make dough for ornament cutouts. The sweet scent of cinnamon filled the air, but even sweeter, was the kindness shown by the older children in directing this activity. Even though Christmas has passed, the good cheer still fills the air when the children see each other in the halls.

Kindergarten enjoyed a field trip to Reilly's Farm for pumpkins. We see the children boarding the hay wagons, screaming at Little Miss Muffet's spider, arriving at the end of the corn stalk maze, listening to Mrs. Reilly present a lesson on growing pumpkins, feeding the animals and displaying their

occur in fall the children wanted to share what they had learned. The halls were lined with leaf rubbings showing the change from summer green, to fading chlorophyll, to brightly colored leaves. Marble painted leaves in fall colors hung from our autumn tree in the hall and tissues paper apples spilled from our apple basket. At workshop, the children prepared an apple tree booklet showing the seasons. They had fun using paint, cotton, and crayon to illustrate the changes in the tree from season to season. Daily they gathered leaves sharing what they had learned with their teachers. Using the word
“chlorophyll” they described
the change in color! The seasonal lessons delighted both the children and their

Throughout the week teachers and students work on concepts in the classroom, and on Friday everything comes together through learning stations directed by the parents and the teachers. The children love having their parent volunteers in the classroom. Our parents delight in seeing the terrific work that the children produce. This collaborative effort brings hard work and a sense of accomplishment to fulfillment in the pride that the children take in the projects they have completed.

The Kindergarten field trip to Reilly's Summer Seat Farm was great fun. The children rode hay wagons and enjoyed an educational talk about how strawberries grow given by Sherrie Reilly and her puppet friend Blossom. Finally, the children went to the barn to pet the baby animals. You can tell from the smiles that the children were delighted. I thought you might enjoy seeing how many wonderful chaperones we had join us.

Catholic Schools Week has us going "green" at St. Ursula School. Under the guidance of Chrissy Spohn, St. Ursula graduate and junior in high school, the kindergarten children make "litter bugs" using recycled egg cartons as reminders of what they can do to make the environment more green! Chrissy is earning her Star in Girl Scouts, and
St. Ursula is the beneficiary.
Kindergarten and Ready K model their Dennis Bowman weather hats after returning from the weather assembly with Mr. Bowman. The children were thrilled with Mr. Bowman's presentation and with his puppet friend, Chester Drawers.
To raise money to assist in the relief efforts in Haiti, the student were asked to make a donation to the collection during the school Mass. In return, they were permitted to wear jeans to school that day. God bless you for all your generosity toward the people of Haiti. At our All-School Mass this past Friday we collected $1,825 to send to the relief effort for the earthquake victims. Thank you for your overwhelming response.
Mrs. Janine McTighe shares her understanding of deafness with the kindergarten. The children listen and look as Mrs. McTighe signs color words, directions and the children's own names. Miss Jen Hawkins assists the children in listening to the magnification of sound through a hearing aid.
Reading is one of our favorite things to do! Our mother helpers make finding the right book so much fun.
From Santa sharing his favorite story to kindergarten creating characters who wanted to share the same story by asking 'Do You See What I See?' Christmas filled our hearts and halls with joy.
Ice science brought the joy of discovery to kindergarten. After making hypotheses, the children observed what their body heat would do to the ice cubes. They recorded their observations on a sequence worksheet, and the children were eager to share their findings with their families.
