Activities
Altar Servers (grades 5-8)
Students have the privilege of serving at the altar. Students who choose this
privilege are expected to fulfill assigned responsibilities and be on time.
Assemblies (all)
Assemblies are held for children throughout the school year. The assemblies are
planned in conjunction with the principal, faculty, and the PTG with a focus on
education.
Athletics (grades 3 – 8)
Developmental (grades 3 &4), Junior Varsity (grades 5 & 6) and Varsity
(grades 7 & 8) teams available for fall and spring soccer, basketball, and cross
country. Spring training is available for athletes at all levels. More

Battle of the Books (grades 4 & 5)
After students have read the list of books provided, they compete in
teams of 4 or 5 against others by answering questions about the books and authors.
Cantor and Choir (grades 3-8)
Students may cantor at school Masses and/or join the choir. Members
of the choir meet after school and sing for the Parish Masses one Sunday a month.
D.A.R.E.(grades 3 & 6)
Drug and Alcohol Refusal Education Program is delivered by the
Hampton Police Department for grades 3 (3 sessions) and 6 (12 sessions). It is
sponsored by Hampton Township, State grants and individual donors.
Drama (grades 3- 8)
Students may audition for parts in the yearly play/musical. Practices
are held outside of school time for several weeks before the performance.
Religious Activities (all)
Gospel Dramas- Classes may enact the gospel story during Mass to add
to the knowledge and solemnity of the celebration.
The Fourth Grade performs the Nativity Play at the last All School
Mass before the Christmas school break.
The Gospel story of the 10 Lepers portrayed by the 5th grade at Thanksgiving.
May Crowning - Students honor Mary with procession and prayers during May.
Living Stations - To bring to life the story of the crucifixion, the students portray
in a solemn way Jesus' way of the Cross during Holy Week.
FirstinMath (grades 3-8)
Students may participate on-line (www.firstinmath.com) for individual
and school recognition in solving math problems. Program is sponsored by
McDonald's.
Forensics (grades 5-8)
Students may participate in the South Western PA Forensic League.
Boys and girls present speeches in poetry, prose, declamation, and impromptu three
Saturdays throughout the year at hosting schools.
Future City Competition
A competition fostering interest in math, science and engineering in
seventh and eighth grade students. Teams of students design a future city using
SimCity, build a scale model of their city and write and engineering-related
essay. See News for this year's results.
Instrumental Music Program (grades 4 -8)
Band instruction is available for a fee for interested students. The
Diocesan Program dictates the monthly fee. The instruments are rented with the
option to buy. Small group lessons and a practice are provided one period a
week. Students may audition for Diocesan Honors Band and PMEA.
Junior Achievement (grades K -4)
Junior Achievement allows student to learn about economics, business
and capitalism using fun activities for five sessions. Junior Achievement
sponsors the program with parent volunteers.
Math 24 Challenge (grades 4-8)
Competition is open to all students for the math contest at school
level. Top 4 students can advance to Diocesan and State Competition. One student
enters from grades 4 or 5 , 1 from grade from grade 6, 1 from 7 or 8 and 1 at
the Platinum level
Pizza Hut Book-It (grades K - 6)
With the Book-It Incentive students are encouraged to do independent
reading. They can earn a free pizza by completing the required number. Program
runs from October to May.
Robotics ( grades 5 -8)
The National Robotics Consortium sponsors the LegoLeague Robot
Competition at Carnegie Mellon's Robotics Center. Students prepare for the
challenge by building and programming robots for each year's mission.
Competition is usually held the first Saturday of December.
Science Olympiad (grades 7 & 8)
The National Science Olympiad and Westminster College offer students
opportunity to develop thinks skills by applying scientific principle to fun
projects. A team of 15 students performs tasks in 30 different events such as
flying airplanes, building bridges and rockets, egg packaging, identifying
constellations, birds and trees and solving mystery whodunits. Students compete
in March.
Student Council (grades 5-8)
The goal is to foster espirit de corps through student planning and
implementation of school activities. The council sponsors social events, such as
dances, pep rallies, talent show and other school activities. Students may
volunteer to be teacher-aides during their free time. They raise money for
various charitable causes, such as Chimbote, Catholic Charities and Holy
Childhood Association. Students sponsor an annual food drive each Thanksgiving
and the "Souper" bowl.
