The students at St. Ursula School are
involved in art projects from pysanky to pottery. They learn how to
incorporate the elements of art and design principles to create works of
art. They explore cultures from around the world and from past
civilizations.
Kindergarten, First and Second Grades focus
on using lines, shapes, colors and textures using a wide variety of art
materials.
Third and Fourth Grade students explore
Native American arts and crafts and use nature as inspiration for artistic
creations. They become involved in the use of patterns and balance.
The Fifth Graders begin the process of
learning to draw realistically and study how colors interact. Art
materials are explored in more depth and sketch books are
required.
Sixth graders begin the tour of art through
the ages in collaboration with the social studies focus on ancient
civilizations.
The seventh grade students continue the tour
of art history with a look at Renaissance art, Impressionism and an
introduction of Abstract art.
The eighth grade completes the art
experience with a look at contemporary and American artists. They also
explore folk art from around the world.
SKETCH BOOKS SKETCH

Students in fifth through eighth grades are required to submit a "sketch
book" every grading period. This sketch book can be 30 pencil sketches, 30
photographs, 30 computer art images or other creative activities approved
by the art teacher. These activities may include painting, stain glass,
model building, sewing, jewelry making or other art forms.
The students of St. Ursula School come
together each year to create great works of art for the school auction
fundraising event. Each grade creates a group project that each student
contributes an artistic element. The projects are auctioned off at the
event. It is great fun and a great way to support the children’s school.
