St. Ursula School Building - Grand Reopening!
St. Ursula celebrated the
grand reopening of the school building, almost eight months to the day after the water
damage. Many 'thanks' were given to the many who made this day possible. After a
brief speech by Father Dorsey, Sister Joanita, and Mrs. Charlotte Bossong, the
school was blessed with "good water" and then the ribbons were cut. Everyone was
invited to tour the newly refurbished school.

Scout Corner
Brownie Troop#682 News - Our first grade brownie troop finished
out their first year with a Mother’s Day social held on Wednesday May 7th in the
church basement. The girls earned their manners try-it badge by discussing good
manners, respect for others, making polite introductions, and utilizing good
table manners. They put all of these ideas into action at the social, by setting
the tables, preparing the food, using their good manners to greet and seat their
mothers, and just being good hostesses at the party. They received all of their
try-it badges they earned this spring at the end of the meeting, and got to show
their moms how they hold a flag ceremony at each meeting. Everyone had a
wonderful time, and the moms were able to take home the decorations that each
girl made at the April meeting, which included a flower with Brownie photo, and
flowers in a pot.
The girls earned their Colors and Shapes try-it in April by
making the invitations for the moms, and the flowers, utilizing all different
colors and shapes in order to complete the projects. They completed the Sports
and Games try-it and we all enjoyed a group/team game at Funfest bowling in
March. In February they completed the Dancercise try-it by learning all sorts of
fun dance moves and moving to the High School Musical CD the entire meeting.
Some of them put their new dance moves to the test at The Father –
Daughter Dance held at Hampton High School in February. Last, but not least, the
girls earned the Cookies Count badge in January, which coincided with the
kick-off to Girl Scout cookie sales! The girls practiced ahead of time how to
sell to customers by role playing, and reviewed money skills. They also made
thank-you notes for customers. Jennifer Wallace, the leader for this year would
like to thank Ann Rock, Jennifer Walko, and Lynda Fischer who helped out this
year to make it such a fun, exciting and productive year for the Brownies. She
could not have done it with out them.
Brownies Move On
On May 8th, twelve girls from the 3rd and 4th grades bridged from
Brownies to Junior Girl Scouts. They were Catie B., Maggie B., Mary C., Megan
H., Caitlin Mc., Casey M., Christin M., Melanie R., Rachel R., Delaney S., Julia
S., and Emily W. The girls participated in a bridging ceremony and earned their
wings as they “flew up” from Brownies to Juniors. Each girl shared some of their
favorite memories as a Brownie from the past 3 years and then they all recited a
poem together. Afterwards cake and punch were served and photos were taken. Many
thanks to Annie Babbs, Ann Rock and Kim Shaffer for leading the girls this year.
They are looking forward to more fun and adventure as Juniors!
The Penny Challenge Winner
is....
The fourth grade! The 4th grade collected 10260 pennies and also
collected the most total cash with a collection of $164.85. The 5th grade came
in second with a cash total of $115.72. The challenge raised $500 for missions
in Chimbote. Congratulations to the 4th grade, they are the winners of the pizza
party.
Math 24 Challenge
Congratulations to our 3 representatives who competed in the Diocesan contest.
Jonathan S., Kelsey H. and John M., all made it to the semi final round. John M.
placed 2nd and received a medal in the 4th & 5th grade division. Sixteen
Diocesan schools participated at Bisop Leonard - Our Lady of the Mount School.
A Big Thank You to St. U
Alum, Chris C.
Thanks to the generosity of a St. U alumni who works at the Pittsburgh Zoo, we
will be getting free admission to the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium for all of our students. The students in grades
K-7 will be visiting the zoo at the end of the month for the final field trip of
the school year. Grade 8 will not be joining us on this trip as they will be on
their own field trip. The 8th grade is traveling to Washington DC on that day.
Let's Go Pens!

Cup. Let's go Pens, beat the Flyers!
St. Ursula School says
'Thank you'
The students of St. Ursula School presented a handmade and
heartfelt gift to Father Dorsey and to St. Ursula Parish during Mass for their
help and patience during the school reconstruction.
The following speech was given during the cross presentation:
Father, The students of St Ursula School would like to present you with a gift
of gratitude and appreciation for your time and effort in working to restore our
school. We would also like to thank the parishioners of St. Ursula who have
patiently waited for the return of their parking lot. This cross is made of
bluish colored glass and tile to signify the water God used to flood our school
and make it grow... Each glass tile was specially placed by each student of St
Ursula and we hope you and the parishioners enjoy our handcrafted work of art.
Parents join the
reconstruction effort
Our restoration company, GS Jones, is currently painting the walls
and door trim in the school, but insurance is not paying for the lockers and
metal shelving in the classrooms to be painted. Two parent volunteers painted
the lockers and shelving in the teacher’s room last week to match the trim and
it really looks GREAT!
Parent volunteers have begun the task of completing the additional
painting in each classroom, which must be completed before the flooring company
comes in to lay the floor tile. We have solicited area businesses for donations
of paint and supplies and we are asking for help from school families and
friends to complete the task!
If you love to paint, or are willing to try, please plan to join us
this week (April 24, 25, 26)! Help is also needed with cleaning the lockers and
shelves before painting and preparing the surface for painting. We will
send out announcements if more days are needed.

Happy Birthday Fr. Dorsey!
For his 75th birthday, Father Dorsey was presented with a stain glass mosaic
cross created by the students of St. Ursula school. Along with the framed cross,
many handmade birthday cards and creations were presented to him. An additional
framed stained glass mosaic cross was created and will be hung in the school
lobby once renovations are completed. The students who are pictured holding the cross
are students in
Mrs. K's 2nd grade who will be receiving their First Communion this
May.
